Hello! I'm Susie.

I'm an illustrator and the owner of The Illustrarium, my Etsy shop where you can purchase my work on various products.

I live and work in England, in the Mid-Devon countryside overlooking the Exe Valley with my family, including our little cat Nettle and a gorgeous cocker spaniel called Archie! I love to draw and paint and also enjoy taking wild walks through woodland, fields, or by the sea, gathering inspiration as I go.

I have a particular passion for colour, nature and history.

I have always loved creating, as a small child I used to sneak a torch into my bed at night so I could continue drawing long after I was supposed to be fast asleep.  I went on to study at art school in London. Then, settled down started a family and took a break to concentrate on my children. I finally returned to my practice a few years later and graduated from University with a BA in Fine Art & Illustration.

My illustrations use Rich Jewel Like Colours infused with natural elements.

Inspiration finds me from almost anywhere but I have a particular passion for colour, nature, history and literature.

My illustrations have a tendency to be in rich jewel like colours often infused with florals and elements from nature. My work is how I express the beauty that I see in our world and I love to share that with others in the hope it might lift some’s spirits and bring them joy!

Art influences are numerous and ever-changing, but I have a deep love of Paul Klee’s joyful colour experiments, Cy Twombly, and the designer Josef Frank.  

my work is hand rendered in pencil, watercolour & gouache.

Over the years, I’ve spent many hours in the life drawing room developing my draughtsmanship skills. Consequently, drawing underpins all of my work, and then my creativity takes shape using various media including watercolour, inks, and gouache to produce hand-rendered imagery. Then, bringing everything together digitally in Photoshop.  I’ve also begun playing with Adobe Illustrator and Procreate more recently when I’m designing patterns. I love learning new skills and if you’re interested in learning more I have been known to post about the classes I take on my blog .

I have a selection of products for sale in my Etsy shop - The Illustrarium - I am currently offering a range of stationery products all printed on beautiful quality 100% FSC Certified recycled card. Products include: Art Prints, Notebooks, Notepads, Greetings Cards, Bookmarks, Magnets, Keyrings, and Christmas Decorations.
